The Hypnotist: Laying the foundations for long-term weight loss
Medium-term strategies are quite common in securing weight loss objectives, but how can they be sustained in the long-term? Adam Cox interweaves a trio of potential approaches: pre-empting potential plateaus during which progress seems to be limited, labelling hunger cravings so that they don't throw you off balance, and tapping into new resources such as regular exercise/walking.

Thought for the Week: The Consequences of Unbridled Self-Interest
Pixar's 2008 computer-animated movie 'Wall•E' paints a depressing picture of the Earth laid waste by a combination of consumerism, corporatocracy, proliferation of waste and human environmental impact. Just fifteen years later we see this spectre emerging in front of our eyes. But is science the answer, as put forward by Lord Rees in his book 'If Science is to Save Us'? We suggest that the problem is deep-rooted in our unbridled self-interest, and that only a genuine re-building of care for others, including our neighbours of tomorrow, can save us from these horrendous consequences. The Hypnotist: The Hypnotic Weight Loss Secret
This episode is more about handling the psychology of self-discipline than losing weight per se: developing a balanced approach which doesn't rule out enjoying special occasions such as holidays or going out with friends, but at the same time doesn't put a coach and horses through regular routines: such as losing weight with a regular approach to dieting. It's about making good decisions for the moment, but not letting standards slip, and it can apply to other walks of life such as careers, investments , friendships etc ..

Thought for the Week: Loneliness and Mental Health
In mid-2022 there were 716,000 people economically inactive in the United Kingdom because of mental health and neurological conditions, including depression, nerves, anxiety and autistic spectrum disorders: an increase of 33% from 2019. 196,000 of these people were aged 16-34. Part of the explanation is the scar left behind from the pandemic. But that in itself points to a malaise which is rooted in loneliness and self-orientation. Technology is no substitute for human conversation: no amount of social media, text messaging or conversations with Alexa can replicate it. Background music: 'Digital Solitude' by Silent Partner

The Hypnotist: Pregnancy Anxiety Hypnosis
This episode originated from a woman being informed, after the event, that a scan during pregnancy carried a very low possibility (1:54,000) of increased risk of cancer for her or her unborn child. The mind often finds it difficult to cope with situations like these, and intrusive, compulsive negative imagination can take over. Adam Cox seeks to put these thoughts into perspective, encouraging a more positive view of present and future while accepting that what's done is done. If something irrational is gnawing away inside you about something that's happened or that you've heard, this episode could be of some help.

The Hypnotist: The Fast Lane to Weight Loss
If you're trying to trim your waistline but it seems to be taking forever, this could be for you. Adam Cox uses the analogy of switching lanes on the motorway/freeway to illustrate things you can do to increase the speed. Pointing out that these are not a 'switch-on — switch-off' choices but a balance of strategies (sugar level, insulin, portion sizes, exercise etc..), he shows how it's possible to change the pace of losing those excess lbs/kgs.

The Hypnotist: Escaping the Noose of Anxiety
Coping with anxiety can be addictive, whether by avoidance or self-medication. The former results in closing down options, while the latter encourages dependence, both shrinking the scope for release. How do you loosen the noose which seems to draw in tighter and tighter? Adam Cox proposes a bold approach of deliberately doing things outside your limitations: avoidance isn't a solution.
