Despite Theresa May's threats of retribution should peers attempt to amend the Brexit bill, this week the House of Lords voted for an amendment that means the Prime Minister must guarantee the rights of EU nationals living in the UK after Brexit. And today, Mrs May has called on Conservatives to support the Union of the UK during a speech to the Scottish Tory conference in Glasgow. One of the suggested tax hikes is cigarette tax, with the Chancellor expected to set a Minimum Excise Tax for cigarettes. There are concerns amongst retailers that this tax could have a major impact on their sales, as well as potentially costing UK taxpayers an estimated £1.2 billion in lost revenue.
