Gadgets & Gizmos: Share Radio Interview — Bionic Britain?
We’re living in a world fascinated with the future and what it might bring. But with technology and AI improving all the time, could a “Terminator situation” be on the horizon? Vicky Sayers speaks to Futurologist, Dr Ian Pearson, who says the only way to make sure artificial intelligence doesn’t eventually overtake our own, is for humans to become more like the machines we’re creating. But how realistic is a bionic future for Britain, and the world at large? Replay from 29 September 2019

Gadgets & Gizmos: NEF — Who gains from Big Data?
Replay from 28/12/17 — Big data. It’s one of those terms that’s far more widely used than it is understood. What is it? And just as importantly – who benefits from it? To get the full picture on big data, we are joined this week by a special guest – Will Davies, Director of the Political Economy Research Centre and a Senior Lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London. Will Brett, NEF’s Director of News and Media, steps into the role of host. They talk about the impact of big data on how we understand society, and on how we experience the world of work. Also joining the discussion are NEF’s Stefan Baskerville, Director of Unions and Business and Alice Martin, Subject Lead for Housing and Work.

Gadgets & Gizmos: Hypnosis for Technology Addiction
Time is the scarce resource in human lives, and technology in its various forms swallows a lot of it for many of us. When its absorption into our lives becomes almost a habit or an addiction, it can cause us to miss opportunities and it can impact our character and even our identity. Whether it's gaming, social media or other online activity that turns you on, the emotional appeal is generally that instant gratification which pulls us away from experiencing real life and relationships. If you're concerned about being drawn into this trap of gaming and virtual experience, this episode could help you restore balance into your life. Originally broadcast on 4th February 2023

Gadgets & Gizmos: The Internet of Things
We’re becoming increasingly reliant on technology of all kinds, divulging more and more of our most personal details online and on internet-connected devices. But are we investing in suitable safeguarding measures to protect ourselves against hacking? Well, apparently not. Research from cyber-security experts, nCipher Security, has revealed that as more and more things become connected to the internet – from wireless home sensor networks, to smartphones, to wearable tech – we’re leaving ourselves wide open to cyber-attacks. In this 2019 episode of the Share Interview, Vice President of Global Distribution from nCipher Security, Peter Carlisle, joins Vicky Sayers to offer his advice. originally recorded on 15 November 2019

Gadgets & Gizmos: 5G stalled by lampposts (R)
You may have read of the stalling of 5G installation around airports: such precautions are not new! In May 2019 Steve Caplin explained why 5G has been stalled by lamppost problems - this is the episode raising the issue. He also went automotive, looking at Dyson's plans for an electric off-road car, the Honda e with swift recharge, the electric Jaguar E-type with optional original engine and Hydrogen-powered double-decker buses and he explained why Jeff Bezos thinks he can have a moonbase by 2024 while Elon Musk thinks he can get to Mars by then. Australia's $50 note issue was marred by a spelling mistake, Barcelona had a self-charging e bike and there's a very cheap credit-card sized charger to take around with you.
