Share Politics: Travel ban blocked, Trump meets Abe
Donald Trump has felt the limits of presidential power - a US Court has refused to reinstate his travel ban on seven mainly Muslim nations. Trump hasn't kept quiet following the ruling, tweeting shortly after: "SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE!" Luckily for President Trump, he'll get to blow off all that judicial angst this weekend when he and the Japanese Prime Minister head to the fairways of Trump's Florida golf course. No doubt Trump's tearing up of the Trans Pacific Partnership - a trade deal between 12 countries including Japan - will be on the agenda - and could mean a few awkward golf cart rides... Shinzo Abe's state visit comes not soon after Trump's first phone call with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping. With a rocky start to their relationship when Trump treaded on toes and spoke to Taiwan's President, this first call has been described as "cordial", with Trump reassuring Xi of his recognition of the "One China policy". What court battles lie ahead for Trump? Will they overshadow his latest diplomatic efforts? For all that and more in US politics, Share Radio's Robyn Dwyer was joined by Chris Gilson, Managing Editor of the LSE's daily US politics blog.
