Thought for the Week: Raleigh off the Road
It's sad to see the demise of Raleigh International, which has arranged for 55,000 young people to join expeditions to developing countries over the past 44 years. Not only have they helped many communities in Nepal, Tanzania, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, but they have also helped open the eyes of young adults to the wider world. In this commentary we look at Raleigh as an example of an organisation that failed to adjust to the challenge of the pandemic and other global impacts, and that had allowed itself to become too reliant on Government over recent years. At a time when global convergence and inter-generational rebalancing are urgently required, we hope a solution will be found by the Raleigh administrators to recover and rebuild their activities. This Is Money: What would you do if you suddenly became super-rich?
Sudden Wealth Syndrome. It's a thing apparently and something that many of us probably wouldn't mind suffering from. That's the term used to describe those who suddenly - and perhaps unexpectedly - come into a very large sum of money. And doing so brings plenty of benefits but also its own problems. Over the past week, we have heard about the couple who won £184million on the Euromillions, but what are the challenges they will face and how do you deal with that sum of money. We spoke to a number of experts about this and on this episode Georgie Frost, Helen Crane and Simon Lambert discuss that they said - and why apparently going public is the right thing to do. The team also conjure up dreams of how they might use so much money, from the long-term, to the first thing they would do. Also on the agenda are the boost to the Premium Bonds prize fund and rate and whether this makes them a good option for savers and why buying a fixer-upper could end up costing you far more than a house that's already 'done'. And finally, just when you thought it was safe to go back on holiday ... the car hire crunch has got even worse. How bad is it and why?

The Financial Outlook for Personal Investors: The Chancellor's cost-of-living measures
Victoria Scholar of Interactive Investor discusses with Simon Rose Chancellor Rishi Sunak's measures to alleviate the effects of inflation on the more vulnerable members of the public. She comments on the U-turn over the oil producers' windfall tax; an Interactive Investor poll found people were concerned, not just about their own investments, but what it might mean for their pensions. The markets, however, appear to have priced the tax in in advance.

The Business of Film: Everything Everywhere All At Once, Along For The Ride & The Contractor
James Cameron-Wilson on the UK box office chart, falling substantially for the second week in a row ahead of the release of the new Top Gun movie. James caught up with #2 Everything Everywhere All At Once which he found relentless, with an insufferable tone, but didn't see Benedictine, in at #10. On Netflix he enjoyed youth drama Along For The Ride, with excellent performances and dialogue. He was less impressed by Amazon's thriller The Contractor with Chris Pine, which he found utterly unsurprising.
